Bely Bereg is a cottage estate next to Moscow. It is one of the nicest and cleanest estate around the city with more than 500 cottages. The problem is its inner navigation: design that does not reflect the beauty of nature and human-made constructions.

The territory of the estate is more than 50 Ha. In 2017 we were commissioned to rethink the system and create the brand new graphical language to help the visitor find what he needs in the fastest way.

As a final project step, we have created the booklet about the estate, explaining it’s principles, areas, and pros. The booklet is used to represent the estate to potential residents. It was a completely new experience for us at was the first global project on wayfinding. We are happy we successfully managed to complete it and have created more navigation systems since then.

Estate had no corporate style to start with. The only thing they wanted is to use the Officina Serif font created by German designer Erik Spiekermann. Inspired by Walk NYC project (Michael Bierut, Pentagram) we decided to use the plastic of the font to create the icons and other navigation graphics.

The system is modular so the signs can be connected with each other in different ways. Every street has it’s own color.

We have developed a clear and multifunctional system that can be implied to any form of the surface or holder.

When working on the navigation system, we paid special attention to working with documenting and creating the Rules for the development and production of all signs and signs. This gives confidence that over time the elements will not differ from each other, but will be constant and recognizable. The navigation system turned out to be not only bright, but also functional, and the developed documentation will observe constancy over time.

As part of the project, we also developed a detailed specification of the construction and assembly of signs.

We have also created the booklet for potential residents to represent the pros of Bely Bereg.
